For the umpteenth time I brought two more guests to Klabili Village, Tambrauw Regency, they were business people and also journalists from well-known media in Cape Town, South Africa. After 9 days of diving in Raja Ampat they contacted me to want to visit Klabili Village, do trekking while wanting to see the native Papuan bird of paradise known as the cendrawasih. Currently in Klabili there are only three types of paradise, namely King bird of paradise, Twelve wire bird of paradise, and Lesser bird of paradise, I recommend Klabili to them because Klabili has a very easy trekking route (Flat).

Departure

After lunch at Baronda Guest House Sorong, at one in the afternoon we traveled for two hours to Klabili Village in Tambrauw Regency. Monique and Luci, they were so enthusiastic; Can’t wait to arrive in Klabili, during the trip we talked a lot about the natural potential in Papua, especially Sorong and Tambrauw, listened to music happily and laughed a lot listening to their funny stories during the nine days of diving in Raja Ampat.

Arrive at Klabili Village

During our two hour journey we arrived at Klabili Village, Tambrauw Regency, Yoram (Local guide and homestay owner) prepared all the necessary amenities for simple but very comfortable amenities. We waited for an hour for everything to be ready, then rushed into the rainforest to find the king of paradise or King bird of paradise, from the homestay walking to the King bird of paradise site only took one hour with a very relaxed rhythm.

After a few minutes, Yoram and Josias called us to see the King of Paradise that they had found, this was very easy, it didn’t take long to wait, said Monique and Lucie, this was the first time they had seen the king of paradise. Half an hour after we watched the king of paradise, it started to get dark and we rushed back to the homestay.

Explore the forest at night

After dinner Monique and Lucie asked us to take them to explore the forest at night, and find what they could find, such as frogs, birds and insects, except snakes; they are very afraid. We explored the forest at night for two hours and returned to the homestay to rest. In exploring the forest we managed to find several insects, frogs, dragon lizert and Azure Kingfisher.

Not As Expected

According to the agreed plan, we had to wake up early in the morning to hunt for Twelve wire birds of paradise. However, God’s plan said differently, in the early morning heavy rain made me and Yoram anxious, the Twelve wire bird of paradise would be difficult to find after the rain, this bird of paradise is very sensitive to rain. We waited for half an hour for the rain to stop while preparing our raincoats and then rushed into the forest. Our footsteps quickened in an effort to arrive at the Twelve Wire site on time.

At six in the morning we arrived at the site, for two hours waiting the twelve wire never showed itself, our gaze was only focused on the stick (a broken tree that was drying out) where the twelve wire usually plays; while hoping that the bird would come, but it didn’t match our expectations, Monique and Lucie said it’s okay, you’ve tried hard, we’ll try another time and we’ll come back. Yoram and Yosias then smiled and directed us to hurry back to the homestay, eat breakfast while relaxing waiting for the car to return to Baronda Guest House Sorong that morning.
